Ben Haneman Memorial Conference Grants
ANZSHM’s conference grants program is designed to support Higher Degree Research (HDR) Students and Early Career Researchers (ECRs), who are studying medical/health history, to present a paper at a biennial conference.
The grants are named in memory of Dr Ben Haneman, a medical practitioner and historian in Sydney who was a passionate advocate for the next generation of medical history researchers. Read Ben Haneman’s biography.
Conference grants are awarded on a competitive basis, subject to eligibility criteria.
Applicants must hold membership of ANZSHM.

Applications open when the conference Call for Papers is announced.
Previous Grant Recipients
At conferences held 2006-2018, ANZSHM awarded a prize for the best paper delivered by a higher degree research student.
The prize was named in memory of esteemed member, Dr Ben Haneman who was ANZSHM President at the time of his death.
Prize winners received a book voucher or cheque to the value of $200, plus a year’s membership of the Society.
